Amazon's long-awaited MMO RPG New World is finally in closed beta, and it's already breaking player records...and GPUs. Will the progress you make in the beta carry over to the game's full release? Is your GPU in danger? We're here to give you an answer to both of these questions.

New World is the hip new game around the block. If you're not a fan of World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy 14 then New World might be the MMO RPG for you. Developed by Amazon Game Studios, the game's closed beta kicked off a few days ago on July 20. The official release is expected on August 13 and one big question arises – Will the progress you make in the beta carry over?

Will Your New World Progress Carry Over?

The closed beta started on July 20 and it'll continue for two weeks. After that, it's ground zero. Everything will be wiped away and all that sweet progress players were able to make will be gone forever. That's not something exclusively happening with New World. It's a practice with most online games. Giving closed beta such an advantage simply won't be fair to everyone who'll be joining on the day of the official release.

Since that's the case with New World as well, players will only have 14 days to enjoy the game to the fullest. After that, all the characters and their progress will be wiped out. But don't let that discourage you from trying out the game! There's another concerning reason which may make you think twice, and it concerns your GPU.

Will Your GPU Die While Playing New World?

Previously, some players reported that they're having issues and hardware errors with RTX 3090 graphics cards while running New World. Sadly, it seems that it's not limited only to the 3090s – instead, it's open season on all high-end GPUs.

The New World devs already deployed a patch that limits menu FPS in an attempt to prevent hardware crashes.

The New World Closed Beta is safe to play. In order to further reassure players, we will implement a patch today that caps frames per second on our menu screen. We’re grateful for the support New World is receiving from players around the world, and will keep listening to their feedback throughout Beta and beyond.

Whether that'll fix all the problems remains to be seen. Still, it's better to know the risks before you dive into it. Perhaps the game's official release will remedy these problems for good.
